Layaway Management edit

Layaway lets your store accept deposits on dresses and track payments over time — both for online orders placed through your website and for in-store purchases.

Initial Setup edit

Before using layaway, a one-time setup must be completed for your store.

  1. Log in to your Admin panel
  2. Go to Settings and click the Layaway tab
  3. Click the Set Up Layaway button
  4. The system will automatically create the payment product, form, and page your store needs
  5. When setup is complete, you will see confirmation links for the Layaway Payment Product and Payment Page

You only need to do this once. You can confirm setup is complete when the Layaway tab shows "✓ Layaway setup is complete."

Enabling Layaway on Your Website edit

Once setup is complete, you can turn layaway on from the Layaway tab in Settings:

  • Layaway On/Off — enables the layaway checkout option on your website
  • Deposit Percentage — the minimum percentage of the order total the customer must pay upfront (e.g. 50 means the customer pays at least 50% as a deposit)

When layaway is enabled, customers will see a layaway option during checkout for eligible orders.

Creating an In-Store Layaway Account edit

Use this when a customer purchases a dress in your physical store and wants to pay over time.

  1. Go to Admin → Gift Cards / Layaway
  2. Click the Create Layaway tab
  3. Fill in the following fields:
Field Description
Customer Name The customer's name, for your records
Customer Email Where the confirmation email will be sent (optional but recommended)
In-Store Receipt # Your store's own receipt or ticket number, stored for reference
Full Order Total The full price of the item(s) being put on layaway
Deposit Paid Today The amount the customer paid upfront today
Billing Postal Code The customer's zip code (optional)
Send confirmation email Leave checked to automatically email the customer their account details and payment link

Click Create Layaway Account. The system will assign a unique Layaway Number and record the deposit.

What the Customer Receives edit

If a confirmation email is sent, the customer receives:

  • Their unique Layaway #
  • A summary showing: full order total, deposit paid, and remaining balance
  • A click here link to your store's payment page

When the customer clicks that link, the payment page opens with their Layaway Number already filled in. They cannot edit it — they simply enter a payment amount, their name, and phone number and submit.

Viewing Layaway Accounts edit

  1. Go to Admin → Gift Cards / Layaway
  2. Click the Layaway Accounts tab

You will see a list of all layaway accounts with:

  • Customer name
  • Full order total
  • Balance still owed (shows Paid in Full in green when complete)
  • Date created
  • Layaway #
  • Associated online order number (if applicable)

Click View / Pay on any row to open the full account detail.

Recording a Payment (Phone or In-Store) edit

If a customer calls in or visits in person to make a payment:

  1. Open the layaway account (Layaway Accounts → View / Pay)
  2. Scroll to the Adjust Balance section at the bottom
  3. Select Subtract from the Action dropdown
  4. Enter the payment amount
  5. Add a comment if desired (e.g. "Phone payment 4/20/2026")
  6. Click Adjust Balance

The Layaway Payment History table will update to show the new entry and the remaining balance.

How Online Layaway Payments Work edit

When a customer uses the payment link from their email:

  1. They open your store's Make a Payment page
  2. Their Layaway Number is pre-filled and locked — they cannot change it
  3. They enter the amount they wish to pay, their name, and phone number
  4. They check out normally through your store's payment processor
  5. The payment is automatically applied to their layaway account
  6. Their remaining balance is reduced accordingly

Frequently Asked Questions edit

Can I create a layaway account without an email address?
Yes. Leave the Customer Email field blank. No confirmation email will be sent, but the account is still created and visible in Layaway Accounts.
What if a customer loses their payment link?
Open the layaway account in admin, copy the Layaway # from the account detail page, then direct the customer to your store's payment page and tell them to enter the number manually.
Can I adjust the balance upward (e.g. the customer added an item)?
Yes. Use Add instead of Subtract in the Adjust Balance section. Add a comment describing the reason.
What does "Paid in Full" mean?
When the total of all payments recorded equals or exceeds the original order total, the account shows Paid in Full in green.
Does the customer need an account on my website to use the payment link?
No. The payment page is open to anyone with the link.
